Portrait of Danielle Byrne Raubenheimer

I paint dream worlds — some rooted in reality, some not. Worlds of colour that invite you to explore beyond them, built in thin layers of acrylic on board, canvas and paper, with brushes, palette knives, sponges, my hands, and more recently Japanese calligraphy brushes. It’s about recreating the emotion of being present in a space — the smell, the colour, the tiny little details rather than the obvious.

A painting starts with a colour — sometimes from a photographed sunset, sometimes from an experience that stayed. It grows organically from there; I rarely know where it’ll land. Everything sparkles in Cape Town. The light has an otherworldly quality — kelp forests along the coast, fynbos-covered slopes of Table Mountain, frothy skies and bursts of light from hours spent in the ocean.

Available works are listed in the gallery. Studio visits in Hout Bay are by appointment. Shipping is quoted case-by-case. Commissions aren’t a regular focus right now — occasional special requests only. Please get in touch.
